Broverwatch Writers room power rankings season 2. Ranks 20-11

Hello reader, Josh here (better known as Siarnaq) to introduce you to our power rankings for season 2 of the overwatch league. Myself, Ryu and Drey each made our own separate lists, then we sat down to discuss as a trio. This is taking into account meta, coaching staff player expectations and all sorts. Teams 10-1 will be posted at a later date.

20. Washington Justice - Key Player: Janus

Josh: this team totally hangs on how good WizardHyeong is as a coach, maybe the weakest roster on paper. Janus is the only big upside here, I wouldn’t be surprised if #freejanus started circling

Ryu: The roster is overall very underwhelming and just plain average. I hope that the coaches know something we do not.

Drey: I think that possibly with their coaching staff they might have a bit of potential, but the roster in general doesn’t impress me.

19. Florida Mayhem - Key Player: Sayaplayer

Josh: Sayaplayer is the big factor. If Saya can play Widowmaker then Florida could be okay. I could see them placing higher if things fall into place.

Ryu: The team is overall better then the year before but probably still not good enough to get them out of the bottom. Their biggest hope is the Saya/Hago duo.

Drey: Seems like a team with potential speaking optimistically, but I’m unsure if Mineral is really the coach to bring that out.

18. Boston Uprising - Key Player: AimGod

Josh: After losing both their best dps over the season to scandal and trade, this Boston team looks so underwhelming. I had them below Florida in my own list.

Ryu: Boston still has a strong tankline and supportline but not strong enough to surprise anyone this season. If the duo of blase/ColourHex can pop off i can see them placing a bit higher.

Drey: A team with some individual talent, but their tankline still seems very dive oriented, while I’m also unsure about the coaching situation on the team. The many controversies over the off-season do not fill me with hope for this squad.

17. Chengdu Hunters - Key Player: Yveltal

Josh: The only full chinese team. This team seems like the starter pokemon for china in the OWL, very weak at the moment but with time (and additions of Leave and Coldest for season 3) this team could be solid and knocking on the play in door.

Ryu: A lot of potential, a lot of individual talent but if they take the chaotic Chinese game play with them i see them placing about here. If they get good coaching we could see them end up a bit higher, if not maybe even lower.

Drey: A team that has potential for the future, as mentioned above with more upcoming Chinese talent. Hopefully the stars align, and Yangx1aolg gets the same buff as Leave did when coming out of retirement.

16. Houston Outlaws - Key Player: Muma

Josh: As good as not changing your roster is, this team was average. And now that’s not good enough anymore. This team may surprise in a goats meta with Spree but I’m not expecting anything from this.

Ryu: season 1 Outlaws was middle of the pack, with minimal upgrades and an expanding league we will probably see them lower then that this season.

Drey: An underrated DPS line and a good Tankline, but the supports seem like such massive dead-weights that the team might not be able to carry.

15. Paris Eternal - Key Player: SoOn

Josh: As an EU Native I’m so excited for this team. Like Houston, goats could favour them. Their tankline is questionable at least which is concerning.

Ryu: I myself think very high on this roster and have them at least making top 10. The big brains in their supportline and the starpower in dps can really surprise a lot of teams.

Drey: Compared to other OWL teams their tankline is incredibly weak and while I do believe that Kruise is a great pickup, I’m unsure if his duo will stand up to others.

14. Toronto Defiant - Key Player: Envy

Josh: Whilst this team is all korean and has a very good coach in Bishop. There are some question marks here. This team could very well be season 2’s boston however.

Ryu: I have the Defiant in my bottom 3/4. Envy and Neko are great players but their roster after that were not top tier in their contenders regions last we saw them. My expectation are not high for this one.

Drey: They have three great players for them to build around (Envy/Ivy/Neko) that have heavy carry potential. With Bishop coaching the team, even with some questionable pickups, such as Aid, I think they might do at least average.

13. Guangzhou Charge - Key Player: Eileen

Josh: A mixed roster of Meta Bellum+friends. Eileen and Happy is a very good dps duo I think those two could really shine.

Ryu: I like this roster a lot, this is an experiment and the team has the individual pieces to battle for play-in. The question is if this group synergizes well. Let’s hope so!

Drey: Many worry about language barriers, though Guangzhou is a team made up of many Bellum players, who were receiving English lessons during their time on the team, and players from English speaking teams. With that experience I think that the skilled players might be able to get their communication in place, but just barely miss play-ins.

12. Dallas Fuel - Key Player: OGe

Josh: Very good coaching set up, adding RCK and Closer was great business. I’m concerned with ZachaREEE as their flex dps however.

Ryu: Fuel is individually very strong but we do not know how well they will perform with the weird roster they have. 3(4) hitscan DPS and no proven flex players? Aero is a very good coach so he might know something we all don’t.

Drey: They have a very good tankline in OGe/rCk along with great supports, the question is if EFFECT can get into carry mode, and if ZachaREEE can live up to the flex DPS expectations set on to him.

11. Los Angeles Valiant - Key Player: Space

Josh: Losing So0N is big for LAV. This team failed to address their one weakness of season 1, their dps line in fact it’s now worse in my mind. I have major LAV syndrome going into year 2.

Ryu: This team is one of the very few if not the only one that has become weaker compared to their season 1 roster. I do not even have them making play-in. Space and Custa have to carry this team to new heights if they want to perform.

Drey: They may have lost SoOn, but they still have one of the best tanklines in the league along with a very good support line. Their strength never were in their DPS, but in their great teamplay. They could very well pop off this season and go to playoffs either through play-ins or through top six qualifications.

And that concludes the bottom half of our list. Agree or disagree with our views tweet us why.
